The High Cost of Child Care

Even though we are a school and we focus on education, we do fall into the category of child care. WNA preschool is one of the most competitively priced preschools in our area and our island but we still understand that it is a lot. I recently read an article which brought those statistics into the light for me.

Dr. Lynette Fraga writes, ” As with previous years’ findings, child care still remains unaffordable for most families in 2018. In many homes across the country, child care costs exceed the cost of housing, college tuition, transportation or food. Despite headlines that tout low unemployment and rising salaries, parents are still struggling to afford one of the most significant expenses in their family budget — child care. Across all states, the average cost of center-based infant care exceeds 27 percent of median household income for single working parents. For parents and families of color, these challenges are exacerbated.” The percentages mentioned are illustrated in the map above.

Private school is not for everyone but at Windward Nazarene Academy we try to make the experience for everyone that we can. As part of our efforts we accept scholarships from multiple different organizations to alleviate some of the pressure on you. WNA is gearing up for the 2019-2020 school year and we will be hosting a free informational workshop open to the public. The workshop will be led by preschool open doors and is for parents of students going into their last year of preschool. The workshop will cover eligibility, how to apply, and answer any questions you may have. It is tonight, Tuesday January 29, 2019, starting at 6:30 pm at Windward Nazarene Chapel.
